Zachary Claret-Scott
DevOps & Infrastructure Engineer | Cloud, Automation & Site Reliability
Summary
I've spent over 10 years managing production Linux servers and cloud infrastructure through my own award-winning UK web hosting company. I also have a strong software engineering background, so I know what developers actually need from their infrastructure. I'm currently doing an MSc in Cloud Computing part-time, and I'm looking for DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineer roles, ideally public sector or hybrid.

I work on a large-scale data analysis platform that processes millions of data points per day for global manufacturers. My focus is on the import and parsing pipeline, making sure high-volume data ingestion stays fast, reliable, and correct. It's similar thinking to observability at scale: ingesting, transforming, and storing large volumes of structured data under tight performance constraints. I'm also helping with the PHP version migration and maintaining the Vagrant-based development environment.

- Network Architecture
- DNS / SSL / TLS
- WHM/cPanel
- On-Call / Incident Response
- Runbooks
- Security Hardening
- High Availability
I founded and have run a commercial UK web hosting company for over 9 years, maintaining 99.9% uptime for business clients. I manage the full stack using Proxmox with LXC containers, automated provisioning and configuration with Ansible, OpenTofu, and NixOS, and monitoring and alerting via VictoriaMetrics, Loki, and Grafana. I handle on-call, write runbooks, run post-incident reviews, and manage the network architecture including DNS, firewalls, SSL/TLS, and mail servers. I've also run Docker Swarm and Rancher Cattle clusters for container workloads. Everything from provisioning and hardening to patching, backups, and capacity planning is on me.
I won 'Web Hosting Company of the Year 2024 - UK' from The Developer Awards.
- Ansible
- Terraform / OpenTofu
- AWS
- CI/CD Pipelines
- Cloud Infrastructure
- Server Provisioning
- Legacy Migration
- Sentry
- Laravel
- MySQL
As the sole engineer, I handled the development and deployment of MachineKeeper end to end, a new SaaS platform for the ground care industry. I built the application, set up CI/CD pipelines, automated provisioning with Ansible and Terraform, and managed hosting on AWS. Alongside that, I migrated the legacy TurfKeeper platform, upgrading its PHP stack and moving it onto properly managed infrastructure.
I took MachineKeeper from concept to launch as the sole engineer, while simultaneously migrating TurfKeeper onto modern infrastructure.
I introduced version control (Git) to the business and implemented standard backup processes.
- CI/CD Pipelines
- Development Infrastructure
- Ansible
- AWS
- Environment Management
- Deployment Workflows
- Legacy Modernization
- Team Leadership
I was brought in to move all development in-house from an external agency, which meant building the dev infrastructure from scratch: CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, dev environments, and the team's tooling. I also led the modernization of a legacy codebase and mentored junior developers.
I stood up the full dev and deployment infrastructure for a new internal team while transitioning a complex enterprise system away from an external agency.

- Server Provisioning
- Deployment Pipelines
- Docker
- AWS
- Client Hosting
- Team Leadership
- Entrepreneurship
I started this consultancy at university and grew it into a 9-person agency over seven years. I managed all the infrastructure (server provisioning, deployment pipelines, and client hosting) and scaled it as the team and client base grew.
I grew the company from a university side project to a profitable 9-person agency with international clients.
I won multiple industry awards for the company over consecutive years.
I was selected for this role through a competitive university scholarship. I developed and maintained a custom Android ROM for a specialised hardware security product, doing low-level systems work to get the software and embedded hardware working together reliably.
I worked part-time on the dev team, mostly migrating client websites over to Laravel and upgrading older codebases.
I provided IT support to students and staff, and was picked to help co-lead a campus-wide hardware audit.

Volunteer(3)
I sit on the panel that reviews and recommends councillor allowances each year. We look at comparative data from surrounding councils and produce formal recommendations. This is a remunerated civic role.
I work the polling stations for local and national elections: checking voter ID, helping the public through the process, and handling station setup and close. This is a remunerated civic role.
I re-founded the university's defunct Computer Science Society and grew it to 60+ members with a 300-strong online community. I ran weekly events including hackathons and workshops, and the society is still going today.

I'm doing this part-time to put formal credentials behind the infrastructure experience I've built up running enhost. The course covers cloud architecture, networking, security, and infrastructure-as-code, and includes Azure certification prep (AZ-900, AZ-104, DP-900, AI-900).

- Algorithms and Data Structures
- Team Software Engineering
I specialised in Robotic Systems in my final year. My dissertation was on fault-tolerant communication protocols for autonomous robots in unreliable field environments, basically keeping systems working when connectivity drops and things go wrong.
Publications(1)
A conference paper on a Tinder-style app I helped build to improve how final-year students are matched with dissertation supervisors. The old manual process left over 40% of students with none of their five preferred supervisors. Our system gamified the selection, giving students real-time choice from the available pool and improving both efficiency and satisfaction.
